Mabers Worldwide

The following is a list of Mabers and place names apparently named after Mabers. The criteria for inclusion are a) modern day Mabers are ignored, b) there must be at least some morsel of a story or a clue that a story exists out there somewhere. I've also made some effort to find pages outside of England. I've provided the address of each page and a suitable extract to indicate what it's about.

Glentanner
Ship: 610 tons
Captain: Benjamin Bruce
Surgeon Superintendent:
Sailed London 11th June 1857 - arrived Lyttelton 3rd October 1857

The ship Glentanner.....had a very rough experience on the voyage out to Lyttelton in 1857. She sailed from Gravesend on June 11th, and experienced fairly good weather until August 20th. The ship then ran into a very heavy gale, and was thrown on her bean ends. The mainmast-head gave way also the mizzen topmast and jibboom, which carried away the foretop gallant mast and foretopsail yard. Nearly all the sails were carried away. When the masts went down the ship righted herself, but it was not until the following day that she could be got before the wind, and then she could only spread her foresail and foretop mast staysail. By this accident one of the seamen was killed. The Glentanner brought 163 passengers...

All New Zealand Fatalities — 25 April 1915 (Anzac Day)

This list of 147 fatalities was collated from Commonwealth War Graves Commission records. The exact date of death cannot be verified for 23 of those listed and this is shown as, for example, 'died 25 April -1 May'. Please note also that this list does not include those who were mortally wounded on 25 April 1915 but who died at a later date. Most of those who died on 25 April have no known grave and are therefore commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial. The number before the memorial denotes the panel on which their names appear, for those with cemetery references the letter and number denote the grave's row and plot location.
